The Supplejack Tree
A Symbol of Strength, Wisdom, and Healing
At the Albert Wiggan Institute, we have chosen the Supplejack Tree (Ventilago viminalis) as our emblem—not just for its striking beauty, but for what it represents. Deeply rooted in Indigenous culture, this medicine tree embodies resilience, adaptability, and the deep interconnection between knowledge, healing, and leadership—the very values that drive our mission.
A Tree of Many Gifts
The Supplejack tree has long been used by First Nations people for its healing properties, practical strength, and cultural significance. Its bark is woven into medicine, its flexible yet strong vines are used for making tools and bindings, and its presence in the landscape signals an ecosystem in balance. It survives and thrives in the harshest of conditions, bending but never breaking—a powerful symbol of perseverance, adaptability, and deep-rooted wisdom.
A Reflection of Our Journey
For Albert Wiggan and David Schulz, the Supplejack tree represents their shared journey of resilience, mentorship, and cultural empowerment. Albert, a guardian of Country, environmentalist, and leader, draws on the strength of his ancestors to guide others in protecting land, sea, and culture. David, a trainer, strategist, and mentor, has spent decades forging pathways for learning, growth, and leadership—adapting across landscapes, from remote communities to global institutions.
Just as the Supplejack bends with the wind yet stands firm in the earth, Albert and David’s work bridges the past and the future, Indigenous wisdom and modern leadership, tradition and innovation. It is about nurturing knowledge, healing divisions, and creating a sustainable future where cultural competence is the foundation of strong leadership.
Our Emblem: Learning, Teaching, Healing
The Supplejack is more than a tree—it is a way of being. In our emblem, it forms the foundation:
🌿 The bark pattern represents resilience—the strength to endure and adapt.
🌿 The diagonal leaf symbolizes growth and wisdom—knowledge passed down through generations.
🌿 The words Learning, Teaching, Healing reflect our commitment to cultural competence, leadership, and transformation.
At the Albert Wiggan Institute, we believe in creating impact that lasts a lifetime. Like the Supplejack tree, we stand firm in our purpose—to equip leaders, businesses, and communities with the knowledge, respect, and insight needed to walk forward together.
One day. Lifelong impact.
